Balvich, DMD In November 2010, Dr. Leonard Carapezza, AOS Diplo-mate and Senior Instructor, along with AOS Executive Director Tom Chapman, traveled to sunny Acapulco. Dr. Carapezza was a keynote speaker by invitation of the Mexican Pediatric Association at their annual meeting. He addressed a gathering of over 200 pediatric dentists from all over Mexico on the subject of Early Orthodontic Treatment. Mr. Chapman explained, “Despite the language barriers of lecturing internationally, it was evident that the pediatric dentists attend-ing the meeting had a strong commitment to their patient base and a real hunger for knowledge.” The AOS was a featured exhibitor and was given the opportunity to speak before the group about the AOS and to encourage membership. It was the first visit to Mexico for such a program, but as Mr. Chapman went on to say, “We hope to bring more continuing education to this beautiful country.” Board of Directors Azita Anissi, DDS Juan C. Wyatt, Sr., DDS JAOS Editor Receives Rupp Award for Journalistic Contributions At the recent AOS Annual Meet-ing in Houston, Dr. Greg Cannizzo, received the Dr. Roger P. Rupp Award for Journalistic Contribu-tions. Named for long time AOS Board officer and first editor of the Journal of the American Orthodontic Society , the Rupp Award was estab-lished in 2008 to honor the late Dr. Rupp by recognizing significant journalistic contributions to the clinical journal of the AOS. Dr. Cannizzo, a general practi-tioner from McHenry, IL, has been co-editor of JAOS from its inception in 2001 until the death of Dr. Rupp in 2004. Following Dr. Rupp’s death, Dr. Cannizzo accepted the editor’s position and has held it since that time. Dr. Cannizzo was recognized for his commitment to making the Journal of the American Orthodontic Society one of the finest clinical publications available today, for growing the journal from four to six issues a year and for his role in creating an online digital version available worldwide from the AOS website at www.orthodontics.com.
