AOS MEMBERSHIP NEWS Advancing AOS In The Years Ahead Happy holidays to my colleagues of the AOS! I am humbled to introduce myself as your 2023-2024 AOS president; my name is Susan Tiede and I am a pediatric dentist having practiced in Missoula, MT since 2004. I graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1991 and then served 6.5 years in the US Navy and 7 in the US Public Health Service. After prac-ticing general dentistry for 10 years, I completed my Pediatric Residency at the University of Nebraska in 2003. In addition to my current practice, I have been traveling to Omaha, NE since 2018 to teach undergradu-ate dental students monthly. I want to thank my predecessor, Dr. Jeff Dahm, for continuing the difficult work that was vital for the survival of the AOS, originally started by Dr. Brian Vierthaler. The AOS, under the guidance of Jameson Management (Nate Porter, Khaliya Montgomery, and Emilie Hughes) is on an amazing trajectory upward. Marketing, planning and assistance to members have all improved so drastically that membership numbers have increased more over the last year than in several years past. I am thrilled and have the privilege of finally acknowledging the fruition of the training center along with the online courses becoming available! Our own state-of-the-art event center is scheduled to hold its first live classes in January 2024. This facility is a huge mile-stone for our organization and will create an environ-ment to continue our tradition of excellence with past, current and future members. With the new online portal, access to the AOS and our brilliant instructors is more readily available than ever. Members can access professionally Susan B. Tiede, DDS recorded, produced and edited courses AOS President in their own time. This progressive platform is without match for training of general and pediatric dentists in orthodontics. With updates to the AOS Bylaws, reorganization of committees, and a ‘clean-up’ of past debt from the Hurricane Irma and Covid, we are set for tremendous growth. It is an amazing time to be a part of this organi-zation. I encourage you to stay active by logging into your AOS website for updates on classes and to mark your calendars for meetings. Your involvement and feedback enhance the growth of this organization and I ask that you please hold me and your Board account-able to facilitate these positive trends. I remember my first AOS course with Dr. Leonard Carapezza. I was awestruck by the quality of his work and passion for his patients. I was blessed to further my education under the tutelage of Drs. Bill Wyatt and Brad Williams, amongst many others. I am excited that the legacy of so many talented educators is ever-growing. Please feel free to reach out to me personally (sbtiede64@gmail.com) if you have any questions or concerns regarding the AOS and I will assist as best I can. I look forward to the year ahead and am honored to serve as your president.
