AGpO MEMBERSHIP NEWS Expand Your Orthodontic Education & Network With Fellow Practitioners As the Academy’s new president, I cannot be prouder of the orthodontic moment we live in today. I started my orthodontic journey with the Academy in Austin, taking the Comprehensive Course in 2015. It was there that I met my wife, Crystal, another dentist starting her journey. I had no idea when I started how much orthodontics, and the Academy, would change my practice and my life. As Abraham Lincoln once said, "The best way to predict the future is to create one." The Academy of Gp Orthodontics embraces this statement. The most recent example was our Annual Meeting this summer in Cleveland where we expanded on the idea of a "magic bracket" to a wide range of clear aligner treatment and more conscious practition-ers. We had multiple doctors presenting cases and taking their Tier Advancement examinations for Fellow and Diplomate status, as well as the Ohio and Texas Study Club members getting together to discuss appliances and techniques. This collective thirst for knowledge and the altruistic Humberto Nunez-Gil, DMD environment and camaraderie AGpO President that surrounded our members are just a few examples of the bright future that awaits the Academy. Be sure to make plans to attend our 2023 Annual Meeting in Clearwater Beach, FL on September 21-23. We already have a great lineup of speakers scheduled including Larry White, DDS, MS, as well as Stephane Reinhardt, DMD from the C.L.E.A.R. Institute. In addition, Milton Ntragatakis, DDS, MS will be speak-ing on clear aligner treatment. It is sure to be a great time with great friends in a beautiful setting by the ocean and sandy beaches, I hope to see you there! Thank you all for this great honor of being your President for this upcoming year. I look forward to many more years of success! Humberto Nunez-Gil Three-Day Dental Assistant’s Course Dr. Charles Young will be teaching the Academy’s three-day Dental Assis-tant Course again in the summer of 2023. The course will be held on July 20-22 with the location to be deter-mined. Registration begins in January, so mark your calendar. The hands-on lab portion of the course makes it important to continue to offer it as an in-person course. This course is intended for assistants with little orthodontic training as well as a refresher course for more experienced assistants. The course will give the chair-side dental assistant a better understand-ing of orthodontics and the Differential Straight Arch (Tip-Edge) Technique. Dental assistants will be working in pairs on study casts from your office along with typodonts from the Academy. Assistants will learn how to apply brackets, bands and auxiliaries using the Tip-Edge System. Dr. Young will cover the Tip-Edge stages of treat-ment, tracing cephalometric x-rays and model analysis for the diagnosis of arch length discrepancy. The Academy will supply a T.P. Orthodontics supply kit that includes bracket kits, arch wires, and a carousel dispenser. A list of additional supplies that will be needed from your office will be sent with course confirmation. Set time aside now and call the Academy at 1-800-634-2027 and speak to Adam or Jennifer to reserve your space for this popular yearly course. www.orthodontics.com Fall 2022 35
